    Eric,

One of the pics is in my first book page 14.

I already sent his FSS. Really don't know about the piping.

Here is a picture of the well known RK, A. GENZ

Yes, I used to own that photo and I believe Genz is wearing the FJR1 band, not RGG

        Great photos Jean-Yves!

I too am interested in hearing more about about thoughts on the color of piping. Every original RGG tunic I have seen to date had red. LV 36, No. 453, dated 3 April 1936, stated Flak units (half of RGG) wore red while the other battalions wore rifle-green. Other than being mentioned in a few publications I have never seen proof of this.

Well, thanks to the power of Goggle I've been able to find the answer to my own question. In fact I was really surprised at the amount of information that is available on line concerning the first fallschirmjager training course. Here's an example of what I found.

          ******
In 1933, Hermann G******246;ring formed a small Fallschirm unit from men of the police unit, "Landespolizeigruppe <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:State w:st="on">Berlin</st1:State>," which were to be used as a special force to combat communist activities within German cities. On 1 April 1935, this unit was renamed "Regiment General G******246;ring".
          <O</O
In <st1:State w:st="on">Berlin</st1:State>, on 29 October 1935, the Reichsminister der Luftfahrt und Oberbefehlshaber der Luftwaffe decreed with order, L.A.Nr.5450/35.g.Kdos L.A.II.2A, that "The Landespoliziegruppe Berlin" would be known as "Regiment General G******246;ring", part of the Luftwaffe from 1.10.1935. On 29 January 1936, men of I./Batl.Rgt.G******246;ring were nominated to become the first Fallschirmj******228;ger unit to begin training. In March 1936, the Luftwaffe opened its first jump school at Stendal-Borstel:
          <O</O

Kommandeur of Fallschirmschule Stendal- Hauptmann Immans.
          Fallschirmtechnicher - Meister Diete
          Flugmedizienischer Betreuer - Assistenzarzt Dr.Greiling
          Meteorologischer Berater - Dr.Brand
          </O

The first training course for the new paratroopers was from 4 May - 3 July 1936. The men of 1./Batl.Rgt.G******246;ring moved from their barracks at Berlin-Charlottenburg to Stendal to prepare for their first jumps. The training unit consisted of the following men:

          Major Bruno Br******228;uer
          Hauptmann Reinberger
          Hauptmann Kuhno
          Oberleutnant Kroh
          Leutnant Dunz
          Leutnant Kie******223;
          Leutnant Rau
Feldwebels Loos - Mego - Zinke
          Oberj******228;gers Dochow - Schulze - Hoffmann - Volkmann - Adrian - Hembold - Hasse - Petrik - Wittmann - Schelske - Linneck
          Flieger Bauer

On 11 May 1936, Major Bruno Oswald Br******228;uer made the first parachute jump from a wing of a Klemm KL25 sporting aircraft and became the first German Fallschirmj******228;ger to be given a Fallschirmsch******252;tzenschein. (parachuting licence).

          ******
Still as good as Goggle is, I couldn't find anything to help with the color tab trim question - red versus green.

Good work Gerry. I had found some of that information in some German sources, but not all of those details. Amazing.

Here's one more example for this excellent thread

PS It would be great if there was an FJ badge visible...

and a close-up of the tabs & eagle. Is it me or is the eagle missing a claw?

                  Yellow Piping

Franz Kurowski expressly states on Page 17 of "the History of the Fallshirmpz korps HG", (Fedorowicz pub )that:
"On Oct1 1937 the parachutist riflemen of the Gen Goring Regt began wearing white collar patches edged with yellow-gold piping. This was meant to indicate that they were part of the Fliegertruppe.......
The remaining part of the Regt wore white collar patches with green , or in the case of the flak Bn , red piping"

Paul, it states the same in an early Bender/ Petersen HG book. I remain unconvinced at this time.

To add to this thread, here is an untouched RGG NCO tunic I got from a vet in Pa years ago. Can provide a few more photos if anyone wants to see more.

If they did wear white with yellow piping it must have been very short lived? 1937-38?
Presumably they went to all yellow on incorporation into FJ regt1 in 1938.

I suggest you purchase George Peterson's well documented book about the Göring Regiment, because this Google info is completely incorrect. Göring didn't create a Fallschirm unit to fight the communists. He created a small police unit commanded by Wecke. It evolved into the Landespolizei Gruppe Göring. That unit was part of the entire German Landespolizei that was transfered into the Wehrmacht in 1935/36.

there are some yellow piped white patches mounted on a collar on another WAF thread (galizien41)
                          http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=179925
                          What are these?

Could they be HG Aufklarungs Abteilung? I doubt this as this unit adopted yellow waffenfarbe to shoulder straps only in April 1943.(with all white collar patches)
From Jan til April i1943 it wore pink piped white patches.

                            Willi,

That is a beautiful tunic!!! Can you please post some closeups of the collar tabs?

Is this a waffenrock or a tuchrock(I cannot see if it has the closure clip).

I will have to check my Angolia books when I get home tonight, yet I think saw a section that reflected the existance of the yellow trimmed HG tabs in Vol 2. I will check my other references as well.

                            Regards
                            Paul

Great tunic. Is it stamped to the unit inside?
