    An interesting fact:
The 116.Panzer-Division received allot of former KM and LW replacements after the Normandie invasion (source: From Normandie to the Ruhr).
Most of these replacements were poorly trained when the Division received them.
Therefore the Division first gave them some extra training in the Feldersatz-bataillon before they were inserted in the Divisional combat units.
I'm collecting anything related to the towns Castricum and Bakkum during WWII.
Also soldbucher from 116pzdiv. And 1944-1945 eastfront pockets, kampfgruppe and Oder front.

As other Friends said before, these transfer were were common up to 1944, here is a tankiller coming from the LW to the 559.V.G.D., discussed here :

      http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=706493

Concerning "my" beloved Unit the 708.V.G.D., I have the US "G2" from the 100th Inf.Div. "Century" (november 1944) who fought against them, they estimated that 50% from the basic soldiers and NCO's were coming from the LW and KM.

By the Waffen SS, the transfer from the LW were nicknamed "Hermann Göring Spende", which was not really a compliment ! Lionel.

If you want to read a very interesting history about the rebuilding of a infantry division during the second part of 44, buy the excellent book of Doug Nash "Victory was beyong their grasp" (in english) : it explain how the 272.ID near destroyed in Normandy became 272.VGD (in one month !) with many Lw anf KM men. There are statistics and details. It also tells the fights of this division until the end. The top for Volksgrenadier Division lover !
