Grant Bias had a beautiful 935-4 which I had a chance to look at very closely. Also, Dietrich mentioned to me that there was a fellow there with an outstanding 800-4, but I could never catch up with him.
There were very many nice RK's at the show and (surprisingly) few fakes. I saw at least 3 Zimmermanns, several Junckers and S&L's, and 1 K&Q. Other than Grant's 935-4, I personally saw no other "B" type crosses. Prices went from $10K to over $20K.
Yes, there was one guy who showed me his extremely nice 800-4 in absolute mint condition. It was cased. I told Gentry about it but as it seems he never saw it. It was stunning and when the guy asked me about my opinion I told him that it is a genuine 800-4 and it certainly has the same manufacturing quality as a 935-4. More than that I can't say since I don't know. Believing is for church.
There was never any doubt that they have been made and that they were found with American veterans. There is no doubt that they are S&L. The question is: when were they made?
the cased 800 4 mint cased example at the max was indeed in the square case, donout ring and was pristine mint. i know as i was very close to buying it on friday. i never was able to return as i had to work and go to a footbball game(high school homecoming game) i dont know if it sold, i do have the sellers card and ?
I understand now from Dietrich that this cross was the same one which Weitze had at last year's MAX. That being the case, I can confirm what Michael is saying and that it was simply beautiful.
