Yes, it's unusual to see that fat swasi (like the '65' variant) in the '125'-stamped cross. Adrian's cross has more of what you would normally see in a '125' core. Odder things that this have been found in the EKII world. I don't know if these fat swasis are caused by a softer die strike or a shallow strike or worn dies, but I keep running across them as I collect.Comment

Had server problems all day , just now getting on here .
Adrian was very close in his observations but probably does not know why . Both have the same core but yours is the reworked 2nd frame die . The core die is very worn . The flat sides to the swastika arm let the surface spread out fast with wear , just what has happened on yours . Working on pictures still .

Even S&L Ek2 crosses have their complexity , which is starting to show here . Hard to keep things simple and totaly correct . It would be helpfull if Adrian has a nice side picture .

So, Douglas, are you saying the swasi on my 1st core has evolved from what used to be a geometrically thinner shape to this wider (fat) shape from die wear alone? I can accept this, as I see the same evidence in the lack of crisp detail to the numbers as well. Their detail has 'softened'. It does strike me as odd though that the wear is so evenly distributed over the entire shape of the swasi, and not in excess at any given area. But I believe we've discussed the wear pattern theory before in a different thread or e-mail, and I can appreciate your logic. Besides, this fat swasi is seldom seen on many EKII's. It would make sense that a new core replace the worn 1st core.
Not to change the subject, but I have an issue with a couple of '65' EKII cores. One has the thinner swasi, and the other fatter type. But, in this case I believe we're actually dealing with two different cores. Looking into the inside overall shapes of the two cores one can see that the dies must have been engraved much differently; There is a curvature in the inside arms of the fat swasi as they approach the center area, something not found on the thinner swasi. What do you see?Comment
