It looks like this '125' has the 2nd type S&L frame, but with an all-together different core than an S&L (bold swasi, etc.). Perhaps Eugen Gauss purchased his frames from S&L, and manufactured his own cores...? Any thought from the experts on this?

Hello Robert,
congratulation to this nice piece.
I believe that the late EK maker's (1943 - 1945) must used a default (LDO or PKZ) frame and core design, which is likely the S&L design. Most of the early maker's have an own distinctive EK design. Therefore it's easy to detect EK's by early makers, but hard to detect pieces by "late" maker's.

Hi Robert,
Wow...another one of this maker?
I think you have all the variants by now (I believe there are 9)
Very nice cross.
The frame is indeed a frame that is sometimes found on S&L's.
I can tell you what I do think, and that there is a connectionwith this maker and S&L.
But if it comes to S&L EK's, the only person I know that can tell you exactly what it is, will be Douglas.
Maybe Douglas will jump in or else send him an email/PM, he is always very helpfull to passionate collectors.
Here is a NON magnetic S&Lmm4 with the same frame.Attached Files

Thank you all for your helpful input on this. Daniel, it's very interesting what you added regarding the early and late makers of the EKII's. Luud, looking at the area under the jump ring on this cross it does appear that the frame may have had a hump in it's production. The area has been worked, and is not completely flat like the rest of the top of the arm. What can you add to this? What are you thinking?
