Here is some more info about KC SS Mappes:

483 SS members won the Ritterkreuz/KC.

Only 57 SS soldiers could have received a formal Mappe because they won the KC before 1943. (After 1943 the workload of Frieda Thiersch was so high that the soldiers who won the KC after this date would receive there Mappe after the war...)

Though some of this 57 SS members may not have because they were killed in action. Frieda Thiersch was told to "skip" those KIA, and do them later, for moral reasons.

So nobody knows exactly how many SS mappes there were produced and still exist but it can not be more than 57...!

          Luc,

I am speechless. Absolutely incredible. I like the others would love to know the name of the officer concerned, if only to appreciate more what we are looking at and to fully appreciate the significance of your find. I guess we will have to satisfy ourselves with knowing that he was one of 57.

          Thank you for sharing this.

          Toby.

I bought this Mappe 6 years ago, but it is the first time that I show the Mappe on the forum.

Buying the Mappe was one thing, but the stories he told me from his military history are for me even so interesting. He spoke about his 'Tischgesprächen' with Adolf Hitler, his discussions with H. Himmler, his battles, his responsabilities for thousands of soldiers. and so many things more.

It was for me a great honour to meet several times such a high ranking officer.

Is there a quizz in guessing the original owner ? (just kidding)
                  Thanks again
                  Denis

I know that the Springer Mappe exist.
I saw in an Auktion in 1997 the KC Mappe for sale from
Teddy Wisch. But I don't know if it was the original or not. I never saw this Mappe in real.
For the rest I also don't know other SS Mappes.

Shouldn't be too hard for people to narrow down the list of who it is if they wish.

                          Luc,

Would you consider telling us about the recipient's time with Hitler and Himmler, as told to you by him.

It would be fascinating to hear what it was like for someone on the inside. For example, how did he view both men? What were they really like?

I, as I'm sure many others, would love to hear about his exploits and memories. I'm not asking you to reveal his identity though.

                          All the best,
                          Toby.

                              the mistery remains ........

                              Hi,

The mystery remains on this one but it is even not quite as hard as it looks like to ID who's name is behind the black parts + im pretty sure that even Pieter is dreaming of this particular piece . Anyway thank you Luc for showing us these superb awards and the presentation map .

                              Cordial greetings,

Some years ago I also visited Erich Topp, a U-boot Kommander of the U 57 and U 552, Chef of the 27. U-Flottille, Kommander of the U 2513. A very interesting person and also very kind. We spoke the whole afternoon about his military history.

At the end of the day he showed me proudly his documents of his KC awards he still had at that time and also his dagger with diamonds he became from Raeder.

I heard afterwords that some of this pieces were stolen . When I saw how proud he was with his documents and dagger, than I think it must be very painful for him and the family that this is stolen.

He gave me the permission to take pictures of this documents and I think it will interest most of the members here on the forum to show you the pictures. So this documents aren't mine. This are also really fine pieces of art!!

                                enjoy it!
