    Robert,

From photographic evidence, we see that it is not so rare for the combo to be worn. They are certainly out there.

For me, the big dilemna is WHEN they were joined. I have little doubt that it was a popular job for jewelers, in the 1939-1945 period to join the cross and spange. Some are done with perfectiuon and some are rather crude.

We also know that since 1945, many have been created as one piece, 2 piece, and every combination of joining method.

I think you must feel it, examine it, and have that confortable feeling that this is OLD work, not something newly made to look old.

The reason I have not gone after those, on the market, is that I do not know WHEN they were assembled.

    Best of luck,
    Bob Hritz

Thank you, Bob, and it's very thoughtful to include these thoughts. I too feel very much the same. And I can't help but think that someday I will eventually sell, and what will my chances be in retrieving my investment on this piece with those thoughts in mind? I'm going to play it smart and safe and wait until that elusive L/16 or 18 surfaces. It may be in ten years, and in may be tomorrow...

      Thank you, Bob

I would gladly pay $2500 for a cased L/16 or L/18 combo. If anyone has one to sell..........

I know prices went up a little, but I didn't expect this.

Well, it is rare, so it might be worth it

So, sorry stefan, I think I will take it myself....

                      regards,

Absolutely. A very fair cost considering the rarity. I wish I was in this deal.
