I think maybe these are mismatched makers, that would explain the extended pin.
Although I'm only guessing at the pin, as it just looks a tad misshapen in the middle area...
I don't think this is a full-on combo production piece, from either maker. Don't you think that reverse patina is a bit too good to be true?

It could be, jon. At least I thought it might just be scratched from wear, but maybe rework.??? Shoot some more holes through it, jon. That's what we need.

I just found this one in my files, I 'think' this was vet obtained by Bob (?), a deumer production piece?

The combo you are considering is a Deumer spange on top of a T/R era Deumer made 1914 cross. George Stimson's L/11 marked example I've posted below for you.

                Componants? - Original and period.

                Assembly date? - Anyones guess.

Reverse patination? - Check the example owned by Pieter Verbruggen in Gordons book.

I'm a serious sceptic when it comes to these, but if it's any consolation....I don't hate your piece. At all.

I own three, which came out of the ads that jeff Roth and I ran, back in the 1970's and 1980's.

This is the most unusual as the Iton Cross is one piece and made of a ferrous material.

Thank you all very much for all of your comments and photos. These pieces really are controversial, and I've found it difficult to find two alike, the jewelers were very creative.

This example is actually my favorite. Very early and delicate.

Bob, now I could live with that one! Beautiful spange. Pin assembly is very unique, Maybauer. This is a very interesting piece. What is your opinion on the maker of this one?
