    EK2 gone crazy....

Good day Gentlemen - just wanted to present this one here to the EK community. Cheers

Very interesting. Looks like a good EK.

I'd be curious as to why the front was filed down like that. I can't see anything being THAT worn...

maybe they were trying to use this Ek2 as an EK1 ?

That's the moist logical explanation. it would fit just perfectly through the EK1 loops in a refular Uniform. According to the guy I have it from it was a KM Soldier who used this as his Uniform Piece, keeping the original EK1 stashed away.

It's hard to see in the pic, but the EK is vaulted, thus the flattened (not filed) beading on the front - whoever made this piece must have (so I think) hammered the EK2 from the inside to the outside, giving it it's vaulted shape. the flat beading is not wear, it's flattened by the hammer (you an see that the swasi has "gotten hammered" as well. that makes sense, doesn't it?

I'll get another pic up.... one sec

            Hi,

Nice piece. As I recall, there are similar examples of 1914 EK2s converted to EK1s in the "Iron Time" utilizing the same construction techniques/pin arrangement etc.

Works for me. Any other goodies with the grouping? If he stashed his EK1 away, it should be looking pretty good. Did you happen to acquire that too?

Hehe - I wish, Hank - unfortunately that one had been sold seperately before, I dunno who to or when, the set torn apart, what a sin.... Here's a nice set I got yesterday (unfotunately missing the October1st 1938 Medaille...). One Man, One Grouping.... Let them stay together, they belong together....

if anyone has an October 1st medal for sale or trade .... I'm here....

The EK2's an unmarked Souval by the way...

Right on - great stuff - it doesn't get any more individual than that, does it? - what does the bottom right one look like on the front?

I'm not using my usual computer lately, and sadly don't have the pics on hand, but it's a lead cast 1939 EK1. No provenance though, so it gets a place in my collection by only a wish and a prayer.
I do have another upgrade of a 1914 EK, same style, but sorry no pics at the mo.
Dietrich has a couple too, he may see this thread and post them if we're lucky.
                            regards
