    Yeah,

But you guys are missing the 1870 EKII with spange in the background of the first post. Very nice !

I have seen one just like the one in post #12, with the pin soldered on the back.

Here's the document that came with it. (It's typed on the reverse of the fellow's standard EK 2 doc.) Roughly translated, "In the absence of an award document.... etc." If they didn't have an EK 1 doc, it's unlikely that they had an actual EK 1 to award, so I feel pretty confident that this one is a genuine wartime conversion.

Is the case in the first pic genuine? I have not seen that texture before.

Given the the late date on the orders, I'd have to agree! Steve

... and that's definitely NOT a "Snyders Treasures" Piece (Thank God!)! Thanks for the compliment, Robert, I'm taking more pix of it right now - expect it to be posted in the WWI or pre WWI section, soon! Here's one pic for starters...

Thanks! I was not questioning it with any authority, just never saw one like that and was curious about it.

                      Best, Sal

@Sal - no prob, but it's good you asked, thanks a lot - I haven't seen this texture before I got this one, either.
@George - nice one - is the needle soldered to the frame on top and bottom only, is that right?

Nice thread. I find it interesting on how these pieces were field converted to ek1s.

Yes, it's soldered at the top and bottom. (And it's a W******228;chtler & Lange.)
