Dave, I acknowledge the olive branch. It was well recieved because of the mid-west connection. We do have that in common. Wish him well for me and his boy. HOWEVER! the rounders are real . . . and S&L's are real as well. Now back to the topic . . . . .
Something has to be done to stop the rot . . . . . DOING NOTHING ONLY LETS IT CONTINUE!!!
Now back to Coast Guard . . (BTY one of my graduating Seniors accepted a commision to the CG academy!!!! Awesome huh?!! PM me . . I'd like you to look out for him if you can . . . not that he needs it . . . he is just an awesome young man and worthy of my regard.)
Back to the rot on EK's
One cannot just spray and walk away . .. WIPE...and WIPE again. WD-40 does work . . . as far as it taking the blue off a gun barrel, either the barrel wasn't blued correctly . . . . or the metal was inferior. I throw my shotguns in the bed of my pickup and they roll around back there for weeks or months. Every now and then I get Erik to bathe them in WD-40. .. then shoot a round or two and throw them back in the pick up to ride out the sun, rain, and rough ride.
Again, back to medals . . . one must apply something petroleum and WIPE!
A coat of some petroleum product will stop the rot process.
Back to wiping WD-40 . . .
This will eliminate the thick residue that collects everything. I know of some guys who used simple motor oil to coat the piece and stop the rot process . . . . . again the secret is to wipe the piece clean. It takes a little time, but well worth it.
