I would nearly bet that the seller is a forum member here . I mean, anyone who has any serious enough interest in RKs to have reference books and all, and with the good sense to off-load a rounder, must have checked-in here as some stage!
"Thanks for warning us ahead of time of your conclusions which are again based on faulty knowledge of the history of binders."
Brian-
I think that most rational people realize at this point that you will not accept facts, any facts, if they show that the rounder is a fake. The siliconated alkyd paints (look it up) were used post war. Their presence on a piece would definitively show a post war production, except to those who believe in time machines.
I will report the data accurately. I would hope, in turn, that you would level with us all about the specfic date which you recieved your rounder, prior to that testing. That way we can compare your acquisition date with the beginning of commercial use of these compounds in paint. You can keep all your family data confiedential, as you wish. Just tell us the date. I am confident that these binders will show siliconated alkyds. The patents were in the late 40s and commercial use of these in paint started in the 60s, so I do not think there is much wiggle room for you. If they are there, the pieces are post war, and you have a little explaining to do.
I do not have an agenda here at all and would not have to go to the trouble of buying a piece that I consider to be a complete fake to prove a point if only you had taken the effort to investigate your piece yourself. as I did with the L/15 schickle.
Perhaps, then Brian, since you disagree with the results of a test before it is even perfomed and before anyone knows the results, you could take your rounder and test it under IR spec at the university of Washington. That would be the first test you have performed on the rounder and would be the first information provided by you to solve this question. All we have heard so far is complaints, but no objective information. As before, however, I really feel as though you already know the answer, so we will see no invesitigative efforts on your part. Again, with data staring you in the face, I think an expalantion of your previously stated acquisition story would be in order to set the record straight. I really can't wait to hear your "explanations".
Now I guess if I was a fellow who KNEW that these were wartime and had no doubts, I would bet old Tom about $5,000 on the results of these tests and really put my money where my mouth was. On the other hand, if I knew they were not real, I would not take that bet in a million years. Any takers out there?<!-- / message -->
