      Hello Ivan-

      There are some small differences in the date, particularly in the "4", as well as the horizontal strikes adjacent to the banner on which the dates rest. There are other small differences, particularly where the leaves abut the banner, around the wreath. I will get some photos later.

        So, is the heavy Zimmerman the A type and the light Zimmerman the B type. How could the Germans allow such horrendous workmanship on so high an order? Has anyone done a study to see if the flaw progression follows from the A type to the B type? What if the flaws on an example of an A type are greater than the flaws on a B type? No more Zimnmerman German Crosses for my collection. I need a drink.........

        Now reflect upon the above statement when looking at Steinhauer & Luck Knight's Crosses.

        Answer: No one gave a rat's a$$ about quality unless something got rejected. These trinkets were designed and made to motivate men to fight, serve, or otherwise give their best effort.

            Where: V=Value
            F=Flaw
            A=A-type
            B=B-type

            IF F/A > F/B Is VA < VB ?

            See, it is simple.......

              No one is suggesting that there is anything wrong with these pieces. This was started to ask simply whether the klein and zimmermans are from the same die. I do not think that question is one of irrelevant details. If we are to not look at details, it will be impossible to categorize those subtle characteristics that constitute original pieces in an effort to identify fakes. Of course no one cared about these subtle flaws when these awards were created. We now do care whether one is buying a fake or not and these details do become relevant in that regard.

                Tom,

                I am only asking the same question of flawed German Crosses versus flawed Knight's Crosses.We know German Crosses were made after 1945, both in the de-nazified versions and swastika versions. Is is not right to scrutinize these to death also?

                How can a set of rules apply to one order and not apply to another?

                  Bob-

                  I do not think that anyone knows what characteristics would be attributed to a post war cross. All the flaws on the most common of DKiGs, the zimmerman, have not been discussed in depth to describe what these flaws. I think that only after these flaws have been brought out and discussed can there be a discussion of what constitutes a post war piece. Certainly the quality of construction is worse and the rivets poorly done, but what about flaws? I don't think anyone knows the answer, but looking for a progression of the flaws described in this thread may be a start.

                    I don't collect this Award s o I feel a bit awkward offering this among those who do....

                    Have we forgotten so quickly the 'speckled date' DKiG that suddenly appeared on the dealer sites that was SO good but for the date BUT then suddenly disappeared!!!!!

                    We need to take this stuff apart mm by mm and when there's a difference ask WHY?!
                    Regards,
                    Dave

                      I wonder if the "speckled date" DK had the same minute characteristics in the wreath that Tom has pointed out.

                        The details of the photos were not large enough to see the small flaws. However, there were larger differences in the wreath that were discussed in the thread. We never got down to the small details,as there was no need, given the larger differences.
