Thank you both Tom and Dietrich for bringing your most valuable knowledge and information to this thread.

Another one: this set is displayed at the Celler-Garnison Museum. I can't ID the RKT on the back...

I am absolutely sure that you are mistaken here. His wartime cross survived the captivity as well as his B-type Diamonds. The A-typewas always home. The story of the RK was already covered in the book "Holt Hartmann vom Himmel", the sets are shown in my RK book. I wasat the home of the current owner and saw the pictures of Hartmann, the new owner and the medals (RK, EL, ELmS, Diamonds, Flugbuch, pilot and observer wit diamonds and both his 1957 ribbon bars, he had two)

That is not the memory I have of our conversation. Since it was in 1981, I guess I could be mistaken however I know I asked to see his Knights Cross, but don't remember seeing a war time RK, only a 57 cross with the diamonds ??? Tom

                Here's a photo of his '57 cross.
For sure not the original Diamonds, neither A nor B . They are pictured in my RK book as well as Stephen Previtera's.

So you can tell by this photo probably taken in the 70's by Hartmann that these are fakes ? About an hour ago I was shown a book about Hartmann with this photo pictured in it. I don't know why ?

I guess what Dietrich wanted to say is:

Hartmann didn't wear his awarded diamonds together with his 57er KC.

                    Best regards

                    Nils

I did not use the word fake. All I said is that the "Diamonds" on the picture are neither his B-Type nor his A-Type. If one knows how they look, it is very obvious and easy to see.
