Here a close up from a new form Zimmerman.
Itlooks like scratches and difference in patina on a place where could have been another ring.

Haha! The replies are one minute apart!

I have to get back to work, but wanted to throw my thoughts out there before someone spent a lot of money!

On top are the New form Zimmermans.
left below the Zimmerman with Swass. And on the right below a sure original.
Notice the same damage of the ring on top on the 57's.

On top the mark on the new form cross.
And below a "20" mark on a wartimer.
I don't get a good feeling about itand I never saw such a crappy mark on a real Zimmerman yet.

A new form hinge compared to my wartime Zimmerman.
Look at the holes, hinge and Finish.

                Same but with the catch.
My wartime DK on top now.

On the left a late real wartime DK and on the right a new form DK.
I would expect that the new form DK's have a more developed flaw.

I can go on and on. But I see nor reason why.
My conclusion sofar is that the new form DK is most likely a casted copy from a Zimemrman wich is modified to improve the value.

                    For me it's CASE CLOSED.

If I am wrong, please convince me!
I am never to old to learn.

FYI .... the item sold for 111,50 Euro at auction, and no, I did not buy it . Good or bad idea ??? Seems only time will tell.

IMHO you were wise to save your money. This type has too many strike marks against it to be considered a good one. Again, this is my humble opinion only.

BTW the sell price definitely DOES NOT indicate whether or not the piece is original. We've all seen originals sell cheap and fakes sell high.

Today, I found this one on eBay. IMO a modern made piece trying to copy the very early S&L ones ....

Aged artificially and red paint instead of red enamel ring ...

This is worrying .... they tried to copy the hardware of the very early S&L pieces .

However, the back lacks the quality it should have ( pitting on the right upper side ) ....

                                Buyers beware ..... .
