    Eric,

Thanks for the picture. I especially find it interesting, as I have one of the ones with the metal "loops". I had never seen one where the "loops" were covered in leather. Since mine was found as part of a group of these in Stuttgart some years ago and all were in mint condition, I am beginning to think that perhaps they were unfinished due to the lack of leather......or not, who knows.

      Thanks Chip
You mean the large loop? the large loop inner 'filling' should be horse hair to be considered WW1.
Maybe Iam wrong, not for the first time. Do you have a picture?

      Regards
      Eric

          Hello Eric,

I think that chip is speacking about this strap's model.
For me it's a end of war model, i know also others same models in France!

          Regards
          David

David's right. That is essentially the one I have, though his looks like the strap is gray, whereas mine is just a light brown, sand bag sort of color.

Are there any markings on the steel. D.P. or Weimar stamp?
I know quite a few US MG collectors but first I see over here. Like it.

                Cheers

                  Eric,

There are no markings that I have been able to discern. This photo was taken at a friend's home in Frankfurt back in the early 1980s. As I recall, he had three of this style.

                    Sorry Guy,s
I just noticed I didn't leave a discription of the pick #63. Its reputed to be a piece of equipment for the Württemberg Gebirgs-Maschinengewehr-Abteilung 250.

                    Here are my MG spades:

Close up of the cover with AW stamp. The 17 in a cartouche isn't a date but a work group #. This is the early M01 pattern with reg mark.......

                        Shovel stampings.
                        Two are former (Combs collection)

I looked for my late war cover, but can't find it. Has a thinner shovel strap.
                        Maybe I sold it!!

                        Thanks
