    Non-combatant medalbar to stir debate....

    Hi guys...
Another weirdie for us to kick around. Are we having fun yet?
Here's a non-combatant medalbar with abandoned black/white ribbon instead of the regulation white /black for non combatants.
The give away is the Hindenburg Cross without swords.
As always....Comments or brick bats welcome.
    Enjoy!

    Tony

I really like the fact that the awards are sewn in to limit the swing on this unmolested medalbar.
But the sewing prevents getting a full view of the reverse of the EK.
      It is what it is.....

Last one...a straight on view of this beautiful (to me anyway) Iron Cross.

Now I always thought the white dominant ribbon was for EK's awarded to civilians exclusively whereas military personnel in non-combat roles who were awarded EK's received the normal black dominant ribbon. Am I mistaken?

Yes. I believe, if they were in a combat zone they got the regular ribbon. This guy could have been a medic in the front line.

Nice bar, Tony! I think the WMC w/o Swords helps support the "black/white" non-com award as well. He was likely in a similar roll throughout both wars.

Agreed. I have one of these combos to a doctor.

I like this bar because the EK is one piece , and the two crosses are carefully indexed to each other with the top line of the upper arm straight across.

Interesting. Do you remember how that info came about?

I think that non-combatants who were within a certain distance from the front had an option on which version of the EK they wanted (or they defaulted to the combatant version). I do not have a source to back my assertion. I am just parroting what I read on a forum over the years by knowledgeable members. Regardless, their true role was denoted on their HK.

                            I love NC EK2s!

Here is what I was told about non-combat ribbons---

                              1) Anyone serving outside the boarders of Germany, Clerics, doctors, mechanics,
railwaymen, Government officials, ect. got the black / white ribbon.

                              2) Govt. officials, Doctors ect, serving within the boarders of Germany got
                              the white / black ribbon.

                              3) Military men within the boarders of Germany, having done some meritoris
MILITARY service (no real bravery) could also get a black ribbon cross for service
                              on the home front.

So a white ribbon cross was for a Doctor, Govt. official, clergy ect working inside
                              Germany.

Thanks to Chris B. for his help on this.
