I'm not so sure that case is period, looks a lot like the 1916 type case, although the cross on the outside of the lid appears to be earlier. Could we see more photos of the case?

I agree with Sascha on the case, it looks correct for an 1870 EK1 based on the few I've seen. The major difference from the WWI examples is the imprint of the EK motif on the lid. The 1870s I've seen have a distinct design with very flared arms and a very narrow center, as yours does. Have you held it under a blacklight?Best regards,
