What do you think,...is this a Freikorps or later Panzer skull? Although it looks like panzer, and is the same size, it is dished (see third pic.) and made from nickle silver.

We know, that Freikorps soldiers (and later other organizations like the Wehrwolf etc.) used smaller skulls, before such small skulls were used on Wehrmacht Panzer uniforms on collar tabs.

Your skull looks different to those known smaller skulls. Because the design of your skull, the kind of prongs, the postion of the prongs etc. I think your skull looks more like a Panzer skull, as you already said.

I may have posted this helmet prior to the establishment of Freikorps/Weimar forum. Did not come out of the "woods" but was bought from another collector many years ago. Have no idea if it's original though it certainly looks as if the paint is old and original to the period. Anyway, I like it, it displays well, and never fails to draw attention.

No idea how old the paint is, but you are right. Looks nice in a display!
