    More dagger boxes

    This picture shows boxes for Navy daggers, again the top one is for the early pattern dagger and the other two are later. kind of but useful to know!

                  Nice David. You are absolutely "Spot-on" - A sabre certificate is quite unique. Very impressive - even the boxes.

                  I noticed you seem to have a lot of multiples. I think maybe you should unload some of that burden

                    Cut back!!!!! I can hardly equip a single battalion as it is!!!!!!!!!
                    Besides I need lots of different coloured dagger boxes as you never know which colour is going to be in fashion next season.

                      1.Normally the sling goes over the right shoulder, then comes through a slit in the jacket just under the left pocket flap.

                      2. The unissued sabre has VEB Jagd-und Schneidwaren, Steinweg 50, Muhlhausen stamp, the same as you find on alot of daggers.

                          What is it about the Dagger that gives you cause to believe it was produced in 1987? I'm betting even though you haven't yet said so, that your Dagger has papers with it....

                          How about some pics and then it might be possible that more can be determined relevant to your question that you have posed?

                            I was gone in 1990 to the daggers factory in Muhlhausen. I catched some complet daggers in cases for 146,- DM (~ 75,- €) / piece. But I couldt not buy more. The other 500 (or more) pieces there I have seen, was reserved for shipping to Hamburg.

                            But I can´t take a NVA saber....

                              Mike, no it has no papers... the seller told me it was from 1987 and from an officer whose name is engraved at the back of the sheath; The handle is of later type : solid white/cream color handle. I got it about 10 ysr ago.

                                Is the blade serial numbered?

                                I ask because I'm wondering if perhaps the Honor Dagger was assembled from parts of different batches? The blade for instance could be of much ealier production than the pommel and hand guard.

                                These Daggers are an example of what was wrong with the Government enforced "Quota" system inherent to the Communist way of doing things. Commodities that were very much needed were in short supply, and something as mundane as an Honor Dagger was produced in numbers that border on the "Extreme".
