I wish I could say that deployment on the Findlay Front was a success, but, sadly, it rained almost the whole time it was open to the public so I only had my stuff out a very short time before I had to save it from the rain.

But, here are some pictures of what I did accomplish.

The night I arrived they didnt have a security detail yet, so me and a couple Fascists volunteered for guard duty at the gate.
Oh, what fun being in my element!





There was also a WWII battle on Sunday, but almsot everyone had left, so I joined in and fell in with my WWII unit





On saturday, there was a parade through town...



I know its not perfect, but marhcing three miles is a bit more than prancing aorund my backyard and I got really worn out and had to adjsut several times.
But hey, I tried!

It looks good as it stands though, as you appear to be heading a full complement of motorised forces ... Shame that they are using inferior imperialist equipment, although we could save the Jeeps (and the Jimmys ) because of Lend Lease ...
Again well done! I don't think I have ever managed to march for full three miles ... never managed to convince my friends to do more than a few dozen metres ...

Well when I received directions to the assembly point before the parade, the guy told me it was about three miles into town.
I just plotted the route on Google Maps and in actuality the parade route was almost exactly a mile and a half (about two and a half km).
But yes I did march the entire time, but not in Exerzierschrifft (SP?).
I can't remember the exact name of the style of march I used most of the time. It wasn't the almost like normal walking, it was with moving your knees up and down right before goose stepping.

I also was not leading the parade, there was a Young Marines and the air force equivalent in front of me, but that was it for the on foot complement. The vehicals stayed behind us the whole time.

Which brings me to your two friends on guard duty: Things must not be going very well for the Third Reich these days, if that guard doggie is the best replacement they can afford for those big, mean Alsatians they used to have.

Blumentarn- Where the hell is it?

Hi, new member here. I'm very interested in reenacting the DDR in any form, but I've decided to go with mid-to late 80s and/or mid 60s era. I have a full 80s era Strichtarn(spelling?) uniform and equipment. but for the 60s uniform, id like to find some blumentarn pants and jacket. Where might I find blumentarn for sale on the net? I've found it pretty elusive. So far i've relied on Gowenmilitaria for the majority of my east german needs, and I highly recomend them, as many of you are already familiar . So anyway. Blumentarn; where can I find some? Thanks- Ian

If one wishes for a Purely Defensive deployment using the Blumentarn scales of issue, your best bet is Ebay.de

If you wish to reenact and wear Blumentarn, you will want to get a repro jacket and pants- originals are far too valuable.

I purchased mine off ebay.de for about $75 USD

Ammo pouches and the canteen and other pieces of equipment can be found here in the states, including Ebay and Gowen (not to stir up another debate, but Gowen's prices are fairly reasonable for most of his field equipment and I have bought some from him. Uniforms are another story, but thats all I'll say.)

I myself am still putting together my Blumentarn kit (hence only the brown belt in the pictures above).

I'm not sure what branch you want to portray with your Blumentarn kit, but may I suggest Grenztruppen?

They carried a lighter load, therefore translating into less items to search for and less money to spend (saved money to bediverted to funding more DDR items of course! )

Basicly, a Grenz in the Mid-60s would have the follwing basic equipment:

Kampfanzug
Side Cap (older style without sewn flaps)
Belt (web or leather)
Y-Straps (web or leather)
Belt Loops
Canteen
Ammo Pouch(es)
Bayonet

With the belt and Y-straps it is best to use the older version- where the hook is on the belt and not the buckle and the Y-straps are not self contained and require the loops.

Both the MPi-K and MPi-KM have been documented being used, I personaly use the MPi-K and therefore the earlier bayonet.

It is late here so I've really only given a basic glance, but if you need more details let me know and I can go into more tommorow.
