            You and the genossen on the bottom row, far left, look to be the only chaps who 'fit' the image one typically thinks of when they think of soldiers

            Do my eyes deceive me or are all the gentlemen in the front wearing stieflhosse?

              A question about the regulations, in the moviefilm "NVA" from 2005, there are several shots in which NCOs(?) are seen wearing FDA with the Schirmmutze. Was this done? If so, what occasions were seen as appropriate, and what ranks did this?

                It's typical of NCOs during training. Even the 1986 regulations mention it.
                Beware of what is worn in that comedy film... accuracy was not their primary objective...

                  As Matteo already mentioned, this was to be worn by NCO rank instructors during training lessons. I wore this when having to do basic training with the first year recruits while I was in second year. This would have been done to quickly be able to differentiate the recruit from the instructor while on the EX-Platz, as otherwise, everyone would have pretty much looked the same. Cheers, Torsten.

                    Nobody is wearing Stiefelhosen in that pic. We are all wearing summer Felddienst. Below is the only pic I have of me wearing the Stiefelhose, well apart from the pics during the parade of course. Cheers, Torsten.

                              Yes they are GST and I was their platoon commander for a couple of weeks at a training camp. Those paparazzi were everywhere ... Cheers, Torsten.

                                Did you enjoy those weeks?
                                Was it voluntary duty or were you reguired to do that?
                                Do you remember what activities you did during those weeks?
