    Thanks Dave and Ade,

It makes sense that the aircraft would be British, given that the Museum housing the aircraft I posted, was during the Cold War, a British Air Base in the British Sector of Berlin. I am still curious about the emblem of an anchor and rope on the fuselage of the aircraft however, and would really be interested in knowing more about this aircraft. Thanks for setting the record straight. Initially, I wrote down information about each aircraft out there when I visited the museum. But somewhere along the line, I seem to have misplaced the paper upon which I wrote all the aircraft details down. Consequently, I don't know anything about the MIG-17 with the unusual nose-cone.

The AN-2 - what a GREAT plane! Rather ungainly, but very dependable and very usable! If I had the cash I'd seriously buy one.

        Hi Michael,
the West German's + Brits used the Gannet in a ASW/maritime patrol role... the Airfix kit had both German and Brit decals...
The German version had the naval fouled anchor marking...
        the Brits didn't

            Thanks Dave,

So the version I posted, which has the anchor, is Bundeswehr then. Thanks for the clarification.

            Theodor,

Thanks for coming through on the MIG-17. Great to know it's an "All Weather/Night" interceptor. Ever since I misplaced my paper on which I had written down all these planes back in 2003, this particular photo had really been bugging me. Glad that is behind me now.

Although not communist a Cold War aircraft nonetheless. Here is a B-58 (Hustler) that helped escalate the tension between the US and the Soviet Union. This particular aircraft my father was the DSO. The flames are the number four engine exploding during take off.

Hi Mike, just found this thread. Certainly my favorite aircraft, the Mig 17. After years of collecting I was able to buy this 1958 Mig 17F that flew for the Polish Air Force. It still runs but not in flying condition and is all completely stock. Best, Bill Bourque
