I have always been fascinated by the design of the Soviet MIG.

Here are some pics of a MIG-15. This particular model is the MIG-15 UTI and is a Trainer Variant that was used by all WARSAW Pact Nations as a Trainer, including the DDR.

By the way - the British Rolls Royce supplied the engine for this baby.

Same MIG-15 (You can just see the huge Rolls Royce engine that powered this aircraft). The US in North Korea finally answered with the Sabre Jet, but not before a lot of prop-driven fixed wing aircraft went down in flames.

The next variation of the MIG-15 of course was the MIG-17. The shots posted here are of both East German and the former Czech Republic. The last photo is of a MIG-17 Variant of which I'm personally not familar. So anyone with some history on the last one, which has a peculiar nose similar to that of an American Sabre Jet, please feel free to jump right in and enlighten myself and the rest of us:

The next variant of the MIG series of course was the famous MIG-21. This jet fighter had the claim-to-fame of being the most massed produced fighter jet of all nations. (I have a Cold War era complete Russian uniform including boots and helmet - with the guys name on it) for a MIG 21 Fighter Jet.

(I skipped the MIG-19) because I didn't see any at the museum in GATOW).

This jet looks like a MIG-21, but it is actually an SU 17 or SU 20. The SU 17 and 20 look very similar, so I'm not sure which this is. I suspect it is the 17.

This last bizarre aircraft I believe is of Czech origin. It is naval I think, based upon insignia on it. Any more info relevant this particular aircraft would be most welcome: (This by the way concludes my pics). But that doesn't mean the thread has to end. If you have some you've taken from museums, please post.

that last plane with the contra-rotating props is British....
the name escapes me at the moment...I've got an Airfix kit of it packed away somewhere....

Hi Micheal, the unknown aircraft in post 27 is actually British. I used to have an 1/72nd scale kit of one as a teenager (Many years ago ) It is a Fairey Gannet.
