Very nice reference material. I've seen a number of pictures of the carbine being carried but never a good shot of the magazine pouch. Also nice pictures of the signal pistol holster etc.

Where do you find all those items?! I look for many of them but never turn up. Wish I had bid on pair of BGS SMG pouches though...

Finally found BGS canteen, dated 1969. Little rougher looking than the one in above photos.



Comparison with a 1962-dated THW version. Interestingly, the THW version has zipper instead of snaps and lid is plastic instead of metal. Cover is some kind of rubberised canvas-like material. BGS version has leather cover.

Great photo! Definitely from 1950s because of lack of collar tabs and arch. I believe collar tabs adopted in late 1950s-early '60s.

Klaus - I finally got around to scanning some images of BGS personnel detailed to participate as honor guards in the funeral of of the BRD's first Bundeskanzler, Konrad Adenauer (1876-1967).

The BGS personnel in these pictures are wearing the BGS Eagle but no arc.

Note the lack of vents in the M53/35 helmets.

His helmet does have an air vent.

That is probably "der Speiss" piston rings on the guys sleeve. Re that dates for arches. I did some research when Klaus asked me when they were introduced. I have no hard data for an exat date but period dated pictures in my collection/reference material point to sometime as early as the mid 70s and definitley before 1980.
