Thanks Jack for the info, I think the helmet is dated 45.

As already mentioned thanks for your help and I will keep my card in my wallet for the moment anyway.

    Thanks

        Jack,

        How did B'ham go today??

Is there any dealers in Arborne you would recommend?? Or are they all OTT on the price front??

        Thanks
        Regards

Hi Guys, I like the first smock that Simon listed. I would certainly consider bidding on it; but I suspect the price will go crazy. The seller is a good chap who I have dealt with many times and he always seems to find nice items.

The "Glider Pilot" E Bay smock is junk I would agree with Jack about the home made the label.

The one being sold by Regimentals is over priced as regards condition.

I would pass on the button collar smock. Buttons on smock collars were seen in wartime; there was a makers variant which featured these, but this smock is not one of those. It was often done as a field repair as can be seen here worn by a friend of mine, Peter Block, who was a member of the Indep. Para. Platoon.

Sorry, I cannot help on the helmet insignia either.

          Cheers, Ade.

                  Hi Simon,

Birmingham went very well thank you. We sold plenty of books and I picked up a few bits but I did come home with no money

The bits I bought are in my Airborne insignia thread.

Denison Smocks are about Simon. I think you're best bet is to go to somewhere like Beltring and you will see people with racks of first patterns. But expect to pay at least £500/600 unless you are very lucky. Or you could probably pick yourself up a nice second pattern for a couple of hundred less. It is 99% luck and 1% cash

                  Thanks from Jack.

Any opinions on this Dennison? It went for £103....

It has elasicated cuffs, which I think were added to provide additional insulation against the cold whilst jumping. Worth £103? There was no date on the label as it had washed off according to the seller.

                        Hi Ciaran,

                        The seller is my Dad

This Denison Smock is the type made from 1958 and well into the 1960s and the early 1970s. On post war Smocks they went back to using knitted cuffs for some reason. I have it in front of me now and I can tell you that the label is completely washed out but the condition and colour is near to excellent. It has a 3rd Batallion Parachute Regiment Drop Zone patch on the left sleeve and evidence of where a Para wing and rank insignia for corporal has been. To be honest it is a pretty nice example of what it is.

Whether £103 is a good price or not I do not know but I would consider it to be the going rate. Well I can be certain that it will help to keep me looked after properly

I always tell my Dad to let me do the descriptions on these things and I tell him to use my digital camera, but he takes no notice of me...

                        Thanks from Jack.

Ha ha! Good job I never made any disparaging comments on the item!! (not that I would)

How about making this thread a sticky so as we can post stuff up on here that appears on Ebay and get opinions and comments ??

                          Just a thought....

                            Yeah it's a small world isn't it?!

Good idea Ciaran about making this a sticky thread. A moderator will have to do it though I think? Ask Ade...

                            Thanks from Jack.

Right, pretty sure that these are repo judging by the backing and the embroidery. Also, seller has many other patches both printed and embroidered which are pretty rare, yet being sold off cheap. Anybody bought any of these or any other patches from this seller?
