I think the extra Glider Pilot Regiment BD throws off the balance of the collection though. You should just sell it to me to balance things out.

Although I've had a look at this thread on occassion, this is the first time that I have had a really good look through from start to finish.

Jack,the Glider Pilot's ribbon bar is an impossible combination F&G and Aircrew Europe just can't go together.

Actually it's very possible - this particular piece is named and I have done a little research on the chap. Before he joined the GPR he served in the RAF - and was already entitled to the ACE star. I know officially he should have worn just the ACE with rosette when he became entitled to F&G but I believe he knocked up this ribbon unofficially to make his chest look a little fuller know doubt to impress the girls down the pub. I have no reason whatsoever to doubt any part of this BD.

Jack.an interesting story tho transfers from the RAF to the army are not unknown many surplus airplane drivers were converted to gliders but retained in the RAF as a rule they were not seamless involving discharge from one service and re-enlistment in another.For example when 21st Army Group were running out of reserves the RAF Regt were ordered to transfer men to the army these men(many combat vets) were discharged from the RAF and the same day conscripted to the army and the 400 men destined for the Scots Guards went thru basic training again and the full training schedule before joining the batt.a very unhappy bunch of guys many losing their stripes and pay.
This led to RAF Regt Squadrons being loaned to army units as an extra company but still in the RAF.

There is a WW II Arnhem Glider Pilot's grouping in Bosleys upcoming 12 December 2007 auction. The group consists of his BD, medals. paperwork and post war log book.
