Maybe it makes enough so you guys can get involved in another WW2 movie but one that has a better script, director, cinematographer, and editor.
After seeing the film the other day, I think Remy summed it up quite well for me too, Jim . . .

Dr. Strangelove . . . you are still my favorite cheerleader of all time.

The duel with the tiger would so much better if it showed the frantic panzer crew picking off the Sherman's while trying to not allow FURY shoot them in the azz! Also in the book "Death Traps" by Belton Cooper, he describes a Sherman vs. german infantry duel as in this movie. However, he gives no names or units involved. I can't remember if he said it happened before or after the battle of the bulge. Did he hear of this first hand or was he repeating a military "urban legend"??? I cant find any info on this at all.
No, unfortunately, I was not present during the filming of these key scenes but others here may be able to speak to that.

      >> Note: spoilers below

Logically one might think that the Tiger could've handled all four of the Shermans but then, as someone else pointed out, that would have been the end of the story!

Similarly, at the last battle scene, I'd think that in reality the column would have just bypassed the tank and given a 17 year old kid a jerrycan and a lighter to polish it off. But that kind of end may have not made for a sellable script or the type of finish that modern audiences would have appreciated.

I was also wondering why the poor marksmanship of the PAK guns in ambush not being able to hit anything...but if the were more accurate the movie would have bee WAY SHORTER.

Again its a film, the Pak crews in the wehrmacht were pretty good but that would have been the end of the film, the collum would have bi passed the tank and continued to their objective but again no film and thats all it is a film with some real stuff in it and if he hadn't had done it none of it would be on the big screen....no tiger again the film is not about the tiger crew! no original vehicles..i know there only used as set decoration but its there!

i for one would love to make a film about the Germans specifically the waffen ss but its not going to happen and to do nothing but slag it off and poke fun at what the blokes could achieve in a hollywood film is just daft, this film is about Fury and the blokes in it

lol you all make me chuckle

I contacted the director about the lighting issues last night and here's his reply.

            Owen ,
This can be a huge problem with local theaters, they dim the light bulbs to conserve them.
Before we do any kind of presentation we do a tech check and find many projector and screen issues.

"It's heart breaking to hear people aren't able to see the film as intended.
It's an old tradition for theater owners to dum the bulbs in projectors as they are expensive to replace.
Ironically this doesn't extend the life of digital projectors.
The film as I made it is very watchable.
ALL the detail is there on the big screen.
I want the audience to be able to see everything we worked so hard to create.
Please if this issue arises tell the theater manager.
You pay to see the film.
            You should see it".

            DA

So that's his full reply to me this morning on an email.
He is busy doing press in Europe and took time out of day to reply to my question and concerns.
Not something he needed to do but a genuine desire for the public to be happy.

Points well taken (I did think the movie was awesome, maybe a bit dark but didn't bother me) Ill most likely go see it again to see things I didn't notice the first time around. But bare with me here on this. "Spoiler alert" When B. pitts column is on it's way to the crossroads. A cut a way of the tiger gunner drawing a bead(though the gunsight) on one of the shermans, then back to Brad just in time for the explosion down the column. Cut back to inside the tiger: Commander shouts instructions to the driver & gunner. Then back to the Sherman column...terror & confusion. Brad shouts commands...tanks maneuver. Tiger crew: Commander shouts advance, load another round, gunner draws bead on another Sherman. Back to Brad: BOOM another cooks off....etc. You only see the panzer crew faces for a few instants. But showing the panicked panzer crew knowing that someones fixing to get anal on their Tiger would not take away from this being American tanker movie. It's kill or be killed.

Quite contrary it would give non historians a insight to the object that instilled so much fear into American tankers or anyone who stood against a tiger 1, II /panther panzer crew. ...yea yea I know...didn't happen ...but would be a good edit addition. IMO

I know I'm ranting, whipping a dead horse ....etc. nuff said on the panzer crew, made my point ...go see the movie ...enjoy!

I for one would love to have my film 'Caen' made into a movie where you could get your fill of Waffen SS, Panthers. You're right it will never be made.

I've not seen the movie. I just read that 4 of the main actors have Jewish backgrounds. Were they all members of the tank crew? Was this realistic in a tank crew during WW2?

Good , bad , dark or light. If it creates interest and brings new people in it's a good thing.
