I have not seen the film yet and now I feel nervous

I do hope its not a case of too much attention to detail and too little attention to substance/drama and reality....films are not documentaries, they are entertainment, I do hope it entertains...

Substance? Unquestionably. After everybody has had a few weeks to see it we can get in depth. I refuse to ruin the experience.

I have read the review, very esoteric, as they often tend to be, I often wonder what land these film reviewers/critics live in, maybe a critics land, that's what they get paid to do, we mere fee payer's are far too humble to have an opinion

I am optimistic, I want it to be good, I am sure it will be, I quite enjoyed Inglorious B's, its entertainment, if I want a documentary, I will watch the History Channel, which I do indeed too much !! haha

I will say this. Before I saw Fury I was by no means a fan of Shia. But after seeing his performance, I have a whole new respect of him as an actor.

MY 2 cents

I just watched the movie I am still in shock it got to me as a combat veteran
it was as real as a movie can get as the first five min. of saving pvt. ryan was. as far as I know the story was fiction but from all the vets I have talked to ( tankers) it is true to realty. my uncle now long gone was a crewman on a Sherman & had 2 tanks shot out from under him several of the things that are shown in this movie he related to me. IE rounds bouncing off their tanks their rounds going tru. but everyone knows that anyway I thought it was a 10 out of 10 . except for 2 things 1. this was suppose to be mid-late Aprilof 45 by this time as far as I know their were no full SS co's. with clean / complete uniforms & equipment & 2. in such good spirits that they would march in formation singing on the front no less. otherwise I thought it was right on. any buddy can nit pick an historical movie I am sure a detail or two was wrong as with with most if not all movies. JUST MY VIEW.

Actually Scott, Shia did an excellent job with playing the role of his character. Had no problem with him at all.

- The IAB's on the German's did not have the die flaw!
- The stitching on the helmet liners was incorrect!
- The color of the rifles used by the US soldiers was the wrong shade of brown!
- The Panzerfaust's were not issued in that style of wooden crate!
- German's didn't march like that!
- The Fraulein's dress was made in the 1950's not circa 1945!
- Sherman tanks did not make that noise, obvious overdub in the studio!
- Did you see that one EK1? It was on upside down!
- They didn't use that type ammunition!
- Phosphorous shells don't explode like that!
- The optical devices in Sherman Tanks are mounted 10 degrees left of shown!
- Worst of all this was April ... WTF is with all the green trees!!

Enjoy it for what it is ... a movie LOL

I dragged my husband to see it tonight. We just got home.

All told, he has seen more war movies...while I have seen more documentaries, read more, and researched more...

We are both impressed!

Thanks Remy good to hear actually, looking forward to seeing it a few times.
As far as NPR goes, I never cared much for their brand, occasionally they are useful to hear the limousine libs point of view during "all things WE wish to consider"

Saw it yesterday.

Story: Quasi-ridiculous and at times embarassing and exaggerated to guarantee that everyone will understand, by the end of the 2 hours, how terrible and soul-destroying war can be. You won't like either side in this war and won't come away uplifted, but I don't guess you were supposed to. (On a sidenote, I would personally be interested, just out of curiosity, in what Germans, young and old, think of this film.) A few brief (but appreciated) shots to demonstrate the vastness of the war effort, such as a massive U.S. bomber formation at very high altitude passing overhead, soon met by the curving contrails of a few German fighters.

Cinematography: Pretty good and some which was actually very nice and creative indeed. Somewhat dark, but not nearly as bad as the prints some here apparently saw.

Acting: No complaints. All the characters are living in shells to allow them to mentally cope with the reality of what they go through every day. Are they fighting for each other or for the greater cause? (And that's probably a very good question posed by the director.)

Set design and costumes: Very good, and a nice showcase for people (most especially SS collectors and tank/vehicle/weapon aficionados) on this Forum, but unfortunately probably totally lost and meaningless to 99.9999% of moviegoers. (I don't think I believe in a commanding U.S. officer, in combat, wearing a German camo coat with sleeve rank insignia, but I suppose anything is possible and I'm sure someone was happy to see it in the film and to end up with it in their collection after all was said and done.) No harm, no foul.

Conclusion: Decent Hollywood entertainment. Worth going to see in theatres, as small screen will probably kill it.

Well...in all fairness...

While most movie goers aren't collectors or history buffs...at least this movie tried to portray it accurately so they do get a history lesson despite the "drama"...and if they become more interested in the era/artefacts...they also have a decent reference to go back and look at...

I'm Ethnic German-Canadian - and growing up when I did... I'm a bit tired of the sentiment that every German was a bad guy (which is lessening over time, but is still there), so I appreciate that they addressed this concept in the movie...

And yes...it's horrifying to see how citizens who didn't want to play the game were hanged/killed...it addresses (in part) that question of 'why didn't Germans take a stand against the Nazis? Why didn't they do something about it all?"

It was also good that they showed the children that were fighting...my father was 14 when he joined. When I take stock of how my sons were at that age...well, it blows my mind of what child soldiers/fighters had to deal with...

And as far the apartment scene goes...it didn't quite fit...but I appreciate that they tried to show the rape and pillage that goes on as well - even by the 'good guys'. And that scene meshed well with other first-hand information I have. Better to give it away than have it taken from you...

Unless you live through it...you can't understand. And if you live through it, you don't want to talk about it...or relive it...

But if you don't talk about it...how do you stop it from happening over and over again?

Well...apparently you don't...
