Bernie and I exchanged many, many emails over the last five years. He ran many of his EK2 purchases by me first, and I was always very happy to help him because he was scrupulously polite, curious and intelligent. His emails often made me chuckle because he had a great sense of humor.
He built up a very impressive collection of mounted EK2s over the years -- two or three from me.
Once, when I told him how much I liked one of his new finds, he sold it to me for the price he'd paid the dealer as a "thanks" for any help I'd given him. I never asked to buy it.
He was a great gentleman and I wish I had had the chance to meet him in real life.

My sincere condolences to the family, Mr. Brule was a very kind and helpful person even if I never meet him in person and our communication was only long distance a via email, but if I received his very pleasant and kind communications and always felt his sincere and joyfull attitude in our deals in such an "impersonal" modern way of commnication as email.... but this only speak volumes of what a great person to speak to in person and above all have as a friend must have been.
Rest in peace Mr. Brule, you will be missed but always remembered.Comment

In many ways the impersonal web is a great thing. It allowed many of us to meet Bernie when we never would have had the chance otherwise. Though it might have been electronic communication, with many of the people I've met here, including Bernie, I would never have interacted with as many as I have and for that I am grateful. Rest in peace Bernie. Hope they have a h*ll of a car for you to drive in Heaven!

Just back home in Nova Scotia from attending Bernie's funeral service in Ottawa, Ontario. It was personally meaningful to have been able to spend time with my dear late friend's family and experience some closure.
I thought you would all like to know that his "muscle car" was parked at the entrance to the venue, and that his son Brett's eulogy today was very moving. The funeral service was heavily-attended. The chapel was full and the overflow room crowded. Patrice and his wife and also Stephane (see above) were there as well. A memorable send-off for a memorable guy.
