Next stop was the US War Cemetery at Colleville. A poignant visit and such an immaculately kept memorial and resting place for so many heroes. Two photos from the main entrance. I think Bradley's quote evokes powerful images compounded by the photograph in the next post.
This next one actually made me stop and stare for a long time. Such a simple display but such a powerful image, one seen in many period photographs and in every film since. Replace the helmet for a German or British one and the image still remains. Even the children quietened down as they past this one, it is just before you exhibit the memorial and visitor center before entering the cemetery proper. Brought the whole raison d'etre for this visit into sharp focus.
At the going down of the sun, and in the morning we shall remember them.
