Day 9 in Normandy saw us visit the US Airborne and Utah beach areas of operation. Like is said in the first post a car with a GPS is a must to be able to see everything we saw. First stop was St Marie du Mont on a quiet and serene morning. What a quaint and beautiful village whose square seems a microcosm of WW2 history and it has, IMO the best German collection in what I saw in Normandy in the Musee de la Liberation.
First a view of the church and a public well from where a para engaged several Germans in a fire fight on the night of 5/6th June. The town is covered in information posters that detail the fighting on the night of the 5/6th and go a long way to explain that hectic night.Comment

Bullet holes inside the church just above an area where a German soldier was killed hiding inside the confessional. If i am not mistaken isnt this the church were episode two of BoB ends?Comment

Pic of a museum I was dying to get into but for some unknown reason did not open on that day despite having a sign saying it would be! It is sited in the old German Kommandatur and a lot of it is in its original state. The German officer gave my wife quite a fright lol
