A visit to Stalingrad

Inside the museum was a positive surprise as they had quite a huge selection of military items, medals and weapons from both sides, and not the standard kit seen in several Russian and FSU cities where they keep a lot of Soviet items in glory and a few rusty German helmets with bullet holes and a ground dug Luger and posters of evil Germans and Soviet soldiers giving flowers to children. Quite tited of that sh-t to be frank! I have to say that the museum was well displayed and they had some interesting stuff on exhibition. Not very propagandistic in the display, even though the focus was on the Soviet side for understandable reasons. I recommend everyone going to Volgograd to visit this museum. A few fakes on display as in many other museums, including those in the west, but also many nice originals and well displayed, though not always completely correct.Attached Files

A knights cross with oak leafes and swords. Not likely to be original as I suspect such a valuable medal set would have found its way to west in the 90’s or in the hands of a rich russian collector later. I cant tell if original or not because it is not my collecting area. Probably the pics are to bad to make just call. Odds are not in favour though.Attached Files

A scale model of the town after the battle. Again, a lot of things well done and well displayed. The train station can be seen and I suspect it has the same location as todays train station in Volgograd. That also corresponds to where a park is just outside of the hotel where I stayed. So according to the scale model the hotel where I stayed could just under the red text “Here”.Attached Files
