Inside the museum was a positive surprise as they had quite a huge selection of military items, medals and weapons from both sides, and not the standard kit seen in several Russian and FSU cities where they keep a lot of Soviet items in glory and a few rusty German helmets with bullet holes and a ground dug Luger and posters of evil Germans and Soviet soldiers giving flowers to children. Quite tited of that sh-t to be frank! I have to say that the museum was well displayed and they had some interesting stuff on exhibition. Not very propagandistic in the display, even though the focus was on the Soviet side for understandable reasons. I recommend everyone going to Volgograd to visit this museum. A few fakes on display as in many other museums, including those in the west, but also many nice originals and well displayed, though not always completely correct.

You were actually allowed to take photos with a flash which is a bit surprising. The order of Lenin can be seen.

A knights cross with oak leafes and swords. Not likely to be original as I suspect such a valuable medal set would have found its way to west in the 90’s or in the hands of a rich russian collector later. I cant tell if original or not because it is not my collecting area. Probably the pics are to bad to make just call. Odds are not in favour though.

A scale model of the town after the battle. Again, a lot of things well done and well displayed. The train station can be seen and I suspect it has the same location as todays train station in Volgograd. That also corresponds to where a park is just outside of the hotel where I stayed. So according to the scale model the hotel where I stayed could just under the red text “Here”.

German flags on display. I checked the quality and they looked fine in quality, hence they could be originals. I cant really judge as studies was done in patial darkenss, in a glass monter, and it is not my field of knowledge. My guess would be originals.

German gun display – A few MG 34’s and MG 42’s can be seen as well as MP 40 and MP 41. Not bad at all. Please excuse my poor photos as they are done with a mobile camera as the rest of the photos.

More German flags – the one attached to the pole I think could be good, and the ones at the bottom are a clear repros.

German uniform display – Seems to be a nice jacket along with medals. A German cross holder. Well displayed.
