    Limited Confict and England caused an extended war, brought in all it's colonies and former colonies making limited conflict a global one. Watch out your drawing rational conclusions and will be called a conspiracy theorist next.

        This is incorrect. Britain paid back the money it borrowed from the US AFTER the war to rebuild. They never touched the loans we gave during the war, and still owe for WW1 as well.
        Wouldn't it be nice if they paid up. Then we wouldn't have to borrow quite so much from China.

            Who me? Why because I call it "England"? That is what the Germans called Britan back in the day.

            I did typo Conflict however but as you know there is no longer an edit option on WAF to fix such things after 10 mintues. The time frame for editing should be extended to 24 hours.

              Yes, true but all this is an accounting distortion. If I recall correctly, the British only paid for what they wanted to "keep" at the end of the war under Lend-lease... and they only paid 10 cents on the dollar for those items. The rest was written off. Again, only what they wanted to keep at the "end" of the war, not what was already consumed during the war. Critical point.

              "Large quantities of goods were in Britain or in transit when Washington suddenly and unexpectedly terminated Lend-Lease on 2 September 1945. Britain needed to retain some of this equipment in the immediate post war period. As a result the Anglo-American loan came about. Lend-lease items retained were sold to Britain at the knockdown price of about 10 cents on the dollar giving an initial value of £1,075 million. Payment was to be stretched out over 50 years at 2% interest.[9] The final payment of $83.3 million (£42.5 million), due on 31 December 2006 (repayment having been deferred on several occasions), was made on 29 December 2006 (the last working day of the year). After this final payment Britain's Economic Secretary, Ed Balls, formally thanked the U.S. for its wartime support."

              There are also some "Reverse" Lend-Lease accounting that went on to justify lowering money due to the US... like the US using a British base to operate from... now how silly is that?

              It cost the US in today's dollars about $3.44 trillion dollars to wage war in WW2. And we have not received anything even close to that as repayments.

              Off on a tangent here but what also kill me is that the GI's after coming home from the war still had to indirectly continue to sacriface themselves for the Europeans... this time monetarily... through working long hours and paying taxes that went to paying for the war/ and helping Europe rebuild... "gifts", now that is an additional kick in the face if you ask me.

                whilst I understand the debt question you have to remember millions of people lost lives during the conflict and cities destroyed.money was far from anybody's mind at the time.i do believe the Americans had bases not just during but a long time after the war as part payment towards these debts.and again now american and british soldiers are dying side by side but im sure there is no mention of anybody owing anyone money.

                  You are most correct... I personally like the British... they are our best Allies, as we are to them. Britain is like our "little" brother

                    I know now days when the U.S. Government writes off a debt that is owned to the banks the banks get paid but the debt is then put onto the American tax payer's back's. Was this the case when Lend lease money was written off?

                            My father in law USAAF was stationed in Britain during the war and got his reparations in the form of a 16 year old bride. "God bless them both".
