    Hermann Göring's Carinhall 2009

I rented a car while in Berlin and set out to visit Carinhall. Although not too far outside Berlin, it is a cast-iron bitch to find. At any rate, here's a brief tour. The only remaining structures on the site are these two guardhouses that flank the entrance to the estate. Both have crestrs with crossed Marshal's batons above their doors:

This is the general area of the main hunting lodge. As usual, the government has planted trees alll over the site so it is very hard to get an accurate layout, especially in the summner - lots of stinging nettles, so I didn't venture too far off the paths!

One of the two houses outside the estate right next to the guard houses was occupied. The old woman who lived there said thaat the road had been paved with a lot of rubble from the remains of the lodge and other buidlings, so I did an impromptu archeological expedition. Lots of pieces of marble, a few shards of tea cups with floral designs and lots of fired and glazed clay bits. The best finds were a few pieces of tile dated 1928 and 1936.

The only signs pointing to the remains of the estate are about a mile into the side road off of Route 109. There had been a large boulder at the site of the main lodge up until a few years ago, apparently, but it has since been removed.

            Hope you enjoyed the tour!

I enjoyed it. Thanks. It is interesting to note that the road was paved with the rubble of Karinhall. Unique information.

Very interesting - I would like to swipe one (or both) of those guardhouses.

Great tour. Thanks for posting those photos. I am surprised that the crest above the guardhouse is still present.
