          THE SURRENDER OF THE BELGIAN ARMY!

          Belgium has capitulated on May 28th; Belgian officers are receiving instructions from IR90 Commander Oberst Kraiss for their return journey through the German lines. / Satisfied with the conditions, the Officers are leaving the Regiment Headquarters.

            (31.5.40 TO 4.6.40) The British Expeditionary Force (BEF) is cut off from the rest of the country, our regiment has moved back to France and along with 20. Infanterie Division remained stationed at the Dunkirk Pocket perimeter until the French Army thin defence line finally ruptures on June 4th as the last British troops were wearily clambered on board a packed ship bound for England.

            In the meantime, life continues as usual for the off duty soldiers and men away from the Frontline;

            -Lt. Lübke gives training.

            - Home cooking away from home…

            -Troops are getting paid.

            -And the jackboots repaired...

                  (31.5.40) In Lederzeele, the Iron Cross is awarded to our comrades for their bravery but we must also shed tears for the heroes who fell in Nordausques. (Now buried in the Bourdon German War cemetery)

                          (5.6.40 to 11.6.40) The Blt. pauses to refit and rest in the Champagne-Ardennes region before for the final assault on France...

                          The Fumay Bridge over the Meuse River was destroyed by an Allied air strike in an attempt to stop the German advance. It lays alongside a new transitional overpass built by the pioneers and nickname “Thüringer Bridge".
