Interesting. What did the flag look like? I recall a flag
sold by Manion's back in the 1970's with the Polish
eagle and large "POW" letters below. Wonder if same?

The flag is pictured in '12 Jahre 1.Kompanie Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler' published Deutsche
Verlagsgesellschaft, Rosenheim 1990 (1.). Same book is also available in English from
        Schiffer Publishing.

Acc. to the book a Polish General surrendered a 'Pilsudski' flag. Oit does
not bear POW markings and was kept by the 1.Kompanie Association until
        way after the war.

The agreement amongst the surviving members of the 1./LSSAH was however that the flag
was to be destroyed/burned in due time and so has been done according to my latest
        knowledge.

Nice reply, thanks! Would like to see that captured flag photo.
And likewise, to see the 1970's Manion's "Fox Hole" flag example again too.

What an incredible story about collectors determination!
It was a joy to read and i would like to compliment all who cared for this thread.
              Very interesting.

I myself devote my interest in Joachim ``jochen `` Peiper, but i am not looking for any items of him to buy, simply because items of Peiper are so rare that fakes and high prices scare me off.

              Regards,

              Hoth

                New addition

                New addition to the group:

Congratulations telegram to Theodor Wisch dated October 6, 1941, on his promotion to "Oberstleutnant" (= "SS-Obersturmbannführer"), sent and signed by three of the division's General Staff Officers:

"Eins Anton" (= Ia): Sturmbannführer Wilhelm Keilhaus
"Eins Caesar" (=Ic): Hauptsturmführer Erich Maas
"Otto Eins" (O1): Hauptsturmführer Hans-Joachim Metz

Wisch was commander of the II./LSSAH at the time and had just been awared the Knight's Cross in September.

Lovable, simple piece of LSSAH history.

                      Then and now...

I just placed these "then and now" pictures on another thread and thought they'd be enjoyed here as well. The original '34 shots came from Teddy's estate anyway and he was there with his 1.Kompanie.

So March 15, 1934 ( A. Hitler and GfM von Blomberg inspecting the LAH )

Will will go again next year 2012. Berlin has just so much to offer!

New biography: LSSAH - SS-Brigadeführer and Swords holder Theodor "Teddy" Wisch

                          Dear collectors and historians

I am proud to announce after more than 10 years of research and two years of direct work on the manuscript, my biography on

                          SS-Brigadeführer Theodor Wisch
                          Kommandeur, 1.SS-Panzer Division “Leibstandarte”

Knight’s Cross with Oakleaves and Swords

                          and
                          German Cross in Gold

is currently with Schiffer Publishing for a release this year.

The biography examines the life of Waffen-SS General and Swords to the Knight's Cross holder Theodor Wisch in previously unpublished detail. A member of the "Leibstandarte" from its 1933 creation to the end of the war, he led some of its most famous combat elements. Wisch eventually commanded the "Leibstandarte" as successor to Josef "Sepp" Dietrich.

Rising through the ranks with the formation, he became a full General in 1944 and was among the most decorated officers of the Waffen-SS. The text includes accounts of the combats resulting in Wisch's awards, as well as details and photos of many "Leibstandarte" personnel relative to Wisch's career. Previously unknown insights from former soldiers, family members, and historians detail significant aspects of Wisch's life. More than 80 mostly unpublished illustrations, to include many of Wisch's surviving award documents, add a visual account to his military career and life. Foreword by former "Leibstandarte" Ia (1.Generalstabsoffizier), Hauptsturmführer d.R. Hans Bernhard.

I will keep you posted on details of the publishing date as they become available.
