      Brigadeführer Wilhelm Mohnke

Wisch's successor Willibald Mohnke was not only one of the first members of the Waffen-SS to be awarded the German Cross in Gold and later the Knight's Cross in Normandy, but was also a safe driver in the post-war years as this confirmation from 1962 shows.

            Theodor Wisch biography

Since mid-2009 I have been writing an English language Theodor Wisch biography. With some 13,000 words of primary text, it is more detailed than any accounts of his life previously written. In addition, 100+ previously unpublished photos and surviving period award documents with detailed caption text are included, coming both from my own holdings as well as other collectors. Veteran input is included as well as new details of other significant "Leibstandarte" personalities relevant to Wisch's career. I've been assisted since the project started by Waffen-SS historian Mark C. Yerger who has also written the book's Foreword. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o></o>
If anyone has images, original period documents, or period personal items related to Wisch that I'm unaware of with the potential to be be used as illustrations, please contact me by PM. Full credit with the image and in the acknowledgments will be given if used. More details will be posted when it's submitted to the publisher.<o></o>

Going through the images with the captions he's written, it's an amazing unpublished group of photos and documents complementing a detailed text. I like early SS history a lot so just the new and crystal clear prewar photos alone made my eyes bulge, as well as the new details on Wisch gleaned from his family and veterans.

                Markus,

Years or hard work and research - your dedication this topic has always impressed me. I also think that this is a very worthwhile project, as I think you work will add something the story of the LAH that has been missing.

I can't wait read the finished product!

Even though not Wisch, but still figured it would be nice to post here.

                    New additions

Just felt like sharing this one I picked up from from a series of nice photos from the LAH Stab during my last trip to Germany two weeks ago.

Rudi Lehmann (left) and Max Wünsche (right) both having a nap at the Leibstandarte division headquarters in the summer of 1941.

(sorry the copyright mark is not more decent, I lost photo shop during a system breakdown recently. Does anyone know a good download for a decent prg from the web? Pls PM ! Thanks!)
