        Christmas reunion 2015

Last night we had our pre-Christmas collectors' get-together.

Member "Spanish Freiwillige" had his nearly finished "Kursk" Waffen-SS Grenadier to show. A true work of art, three years in the making! Congratulations!

Oberst-Gruppenführer and diamonds winner Sepp Dietrich showed up in his wonderful infamous campaign leather coat to personally inspect this Grenadier and gave it two thumbs up for realism!

(all weapons on this pic are movie props.)

        Cheers,
        Markus

A recent bringback from good ol' Germany:

The official "Activity Report" and "War Diary" of

              II./ SS-Panzer-Grenadier Regiment 26 "Hitlerjugend"

covering the Btl. activities prior and during the Ardennes offensive, the campaign in Hungary/Austria and personal closing statements...

from the estate of SS-Obersturmführer Harro Lübbe.

I wonder whether the archives actually have a copy?

              Cheers,
              Markus

Not very decorative, but the most interesting material historically speaking...

Thanks for your kind comments fellow collectors.

The photo you are referring to belongs to the Erich Göstl group. It shows his regimental commander Albert Frey decorating Göstl in the Cernin-Palace within Prague Castle (School of the War Blind of the Waffen-SS). I accidently left the photos and newspaper clippings in Germany and will have the originals in a couple of months. I'm planning to write an article for a magazine where the group can be shown in full context and not so much on the web. Here now only the photo I posted on another thread showing the K&Q Ritterkreuz and part of the Wehrpass. The awards page of the Soldbuch also survived (thanks to Göstl's wife who saved it from the G.I.s) along with other award documents and papers including the prelim. KC document.

Göstl's award is unique in the history of the Knight's Cross.

He defended his silent MG position against a British attack at Tily, Normany and lost both eyes (first 1, then the second) during the fierce fire fight. Fully blind he continued to shoot at the enemy orienting himself only by the screaming and moaning of the enemy troops, some 30 m in front of his position in the cornfield. He ceased fire only when his MG jammed. His buddy Elmar Bonn then dragged him out of the foxhole. The British attacked had been repulsed.

After the war Göstl said that he had only done his duty....

He went on to study law, made his Doctor and successfully built a career in Vienna.

                          "His honor was Loyalty."

                          Cheers,
                          Markus

A letter from Theodor Wisch to a collector in Köln dated 1988:

"(...) what I will do with my award certificates one day I have no idea yet..."
