It appears from just the photos posted here that you could put together a book for blood stain studies since the variations are many depending on what is the material that the blood is on, cloth, metal, leather,etc. Then further what type of cloth (i.e. wool, cotton, etc.) and what type of dye is on the material which could affect the stain depending on what happens when you bring those two chemical make ups together. The same may be true for different types of animal leather and the chemicals used to tan or treat the leather, and different types of metal. Then lastly, age of the item since time would play a large part in what a stains appearence would be after time.
I don't collect items stained with blood, but I enjoyed this post since in this field these things do surface and this helps better to make an educated guess as to what a stain maybe, blood, rust, etc.

Thanks Robert39 & JL for posting the images from the blood & brain stained items.


Future collectors please look at the images posted from the bloodstained items that are on exhibit in national museums, they are the best items in their league.
Use these examples if you are offered bloodstained items.
Remember that authentic bloodstained items are rare and those items that have research possibilties are even more scares.
And those items that can be defined to a person and a battle are very seldom found on the open market.

- Many times ruststains are considered bloodstains! Beware!!!

Armband

Hi,
I have bloodstained armband. It was found around 40-50 after WWII in cellar of german post. You can see some gout of blood above and below the eagle.

But that isn't battle damage and bloodstaining.
It is just rodent damage and filth.
Can you imagine how it would look if that was a real battle damage?
Look at the tunic they have on display in the army museum in Brussels.
See the difference?

Also the armband doesn't convince me that it is bloodstaining.




Like I said before authentic bloodstained items are scarce.
Normal filth, rodant- & target pratice damage are often taken for bloodstaining and battle damage.
The forummembers can compare those two items with the once that are in museumcollections worldwide.

That's not because some bloody or damaged stuff are in museum than they are the best of the best.
Many,many difference sort of damaged or bloody items exist.
Are you saying that you can say this one is or this one isn't.
My greatcoat came from the field,found in the eighties in Bullange,now bloody damaged or battle damaged or mouse attack,I like it because it's a real 1 SS "LAH" greatcoat.
Just a few collectors like this kind of stuff.I have also helmets with battle damaged,but maybe for you it's target toys.
