Here are some quick shots that I took this afternoon of 3 of my faded/soutached caps. The two on the left were originally olive/green whilst the panzer on the right is a tan example.

100% original from a household clearance ( Viena)
I think you should post them both in the Cloth Headgear Forum. You may learn something more about them.....from the photos they both look postwar.

      Outstanding original WWII M40's.

      & Ray,

Having endured some years in a desert environment myself, has anyone ever asked themselves; "When it's hot enough to drive the Devil mad, how the hell could these DAK Soldiers bear wearing these skin a$$ tight knee high boots without any air circulation???"

One of the few issued items as unpopular as the tropenhelm were the high laced boots. Thats why so many DAK preferred allied footwear or other options. Another example of Germany's lack of preparedness for Afrika.

Mark I can smell the desert in them, very hard to pick a favorate amongst them as they are all so individual & exhibit there own character.

Very well done in aquiriing these beauties its hard enough trying to find Unsoutached m40's .

Post them in the Cloth Headgear Forum and let the Forum decide if you doubt that these are obvious fakes.

Insignia looks good but images of the lining and grommits (air vents) would be helpful.

                          Hi Jonathan,

Looks to be a very nice cap with good honest internal ware.

New addition, 3rd pattern tall boots.

Very recently aquired and something I jumped over hoops to get are these 3rd pattern boots.

When I got these I knew there was a 4-5 inch cut on the upper part of the gusset on one boot. I thought most likely someone cut through the laces and through the gusset to get the boot of quickly. When in hand it became quite oviouse why. To my surprise was a patch arround the cut showing extencive scrubbing/fading to remove blood with some remnants still there. Likely the guy was wounded just above the boot line and to get the pants that may have been tucked into the boot out quickly they have made this cut to the gusset. Certainly tells an interesting & haunting story in hand.

Otherwise these boots are in great condition, good size, dated 41 and still relatively supple.
