I have few undisputed original pieces of head gear in my collection. A luft M-43, a Heer M-43, and this DAK cap. I'm not sure I could ever be tempted out of it.

But do feel free to try.

Both documents to the same guy. The smaller seemed of have once been glued to something. Soldbuch perhaps?

        Note the dates (?)

        Are they real?

        Opinions please ...

Very nice items Alphared. I have to agree that the officers cap would need a really good looking over but I'm more than convinced that it is 100% fake. The cockade certainly is a bad modern example but the whole cap is very questionable. The em's cap is a very desirable original example.
I can't help you with the award doc as I have no experience with paper items, just caps, insignia and uniforms.

The document is interesting. Its kinda like a luftwaffe cuff title document but not 100% and odd that its a Heer guy getting the award on a luft document. Im sure it happened but you just don't see it done that way very much... Please note I do not own a award document of this type as I consider it tropical luftwaffe and I only collect trop Heer (from www.germanmilitaria.com). Make your own comparison but I wouldn't want the Heer one in my collection. I really only accept the standard Heer Afrika cuff document as original. Matt

I used to own this afrika cuff title and document but did move it along last year. Its a standard one for the Heer. Just a couple of my other award documents/telegraph. Matt

to me alphared6's document is a fake... Lichte Afrika Division???
The German on the little piece of paper is also wrong.

The little piece of paper is a statement that the owners soldbuch has been inspected and found not to have been tampered with.

I have suspected these for a long time. I got them in High-School then after two tours in Germany I began to pick up on the way Germans write, the hand writing is the red flag for me.

I think people are moving them because the economy is bad and some original patch spools are being cut up in Europe. The repros are not that good in hand.

                          Andy,

I agree the repros are not that great, or at least the ones I have seen. Some are decent but after you have handled a few of these you can tell what is right and what is not. Matt

Here is a Heer tropical eagle still attached to a piece of tunic, including the entire pocket flap:

What a waste of a good tunic
Fantastic piece and very desirable to insignia collectors.

Perhaps the rarest Waffenfarbe of the German forces in Africa was the Bordorot of the Nebelwerfer troops. I believe the only unit of Nebelwerfer troops to serve in North Africa was the second Battalion of Werfer Rgt 1., which, while a Heer formation, was attached to the Hermann Goring Division in Tunisia. Of course the following strap may have been worn in Italy but the early type construction may suggest African service:
