    Hello all,

Since I've got all of you guys here and you DAK experts may know, what do you think of these rings I have? I know rings are a minefield but I feel these are legit, any thoughts?

Sadly I do not have a mint example from the "Berchtesgaden HPC GJ visor find in the early 70's" cache/ hoard.

All I can offer is a New Zealand brought back example made by "HPC" from an over-run German position in "Afrika". The member of 2NZEF 27MG Battalion who I got this German officer hat off served in both North Africia and Italy 1941 to 1945.

I asked more than once, surely you got the hat in Italy but no each time he said "Africa".

Either way, I do no care it is a classic been there done that example in a tropical climate. Look at the sweat staining/ damage. Amazing how a hat by this maker has held its shape through thick and thin.

Ok guys so I was really fortunate today and scored this little set from the family! They had the soldbuch but the widow did not want to part with it... it had the guys entries and was nicely filled out. That said I was able to get his DAK ring and his little photo album. It was only 47 pics but its really nice and the DAK ring came with it. I am pretty sure he is actually wearing the ring in two photos but you can't make out enough details to call it with 100% certainty either way. I left my contact info with the widow incase she should some day be willing to part with the soldbuch :/ Included are two period maps from Tobruk and El Alem... pretty cool I think. That said enjoy folks, I will be listing it on the estand but when was the last time anyone pulled a DAK grouping from the German woodwork? Im pretty pumped about it to say the least. Matt

Im pretty sure that said ring is this one in the photo but we will never be able to be 100% certain, though its too large to be a wedding ring. I think its pretty fricken cool to actually see a DAK ring in wear. Matt

As you collect DAK items and rings, and had the rare luck of finding this item from the family with accompaying photos, I cant fathom why you want to put the grouping on the estand. I wouild have thought this was the sort of find one would treasure for a lifetime.

                          Jean,

I have really cut back on my DAK stuff in the last few years, I got tired of always fighting for items with several folks and just moved onto other fields of interest. I still have the majority of my DAK rings and do enjoy them, but that said I do have other competeing interests and am not independantly wealthy and can't keep it all. Additionally, this stuff is uncommon but I wouldn't call DAK stuff rare. I do like to kick some items out to the collector community as well, and let others enjoy them.

It was great to get the items out of the woodwork, I enjoy that part of it. To me its way cooler hunting the items down and getting them, than actually keeping everything. The fun is in the hunt and cool to see the odd stuff that comes up, plus you get to meet people and hear their stories.

Since I have started picking the stuff here in Germany its really opened my eyes to how much of a pain in the arse it is to get this stuff. Its very time consuming and you have to travel through some weird places to get to the items and then make the determination of whether or not its good or bad. Then what do you offer the family for the stuff if they are willing ot sell... I have driven 3 hours one way to get there look at the stuff and then the family didn't want to sell, just wanted me to come look Then I you get the super low ball offers from folks on the value of the items, its an eye opening experience.

So ultimatly, I can't keep it all and the thrill is in the hunt for me anymore. Been collecting since I was 16 years old and it has to be a really exceptional item for me to keep it. The ring and album is pretty cool, but I have similar rings so I can get a killer item to someone elses collection fresh out of the woodwork. Matt

Thought I would show my new Tropical belt, which I'm very happy with the condition, definitely issued but not abused. Buckle is marked GB40
