Yes, John, those face-veiled smocks are rarer.

Close-up on the eagle. It is embroidered in gray thread on a HBT backing. Despite the apparent unprofessional zig-zag stitching, the eagle is factory sewn to the smock.

Before moving to another theme I'll post some last close-ups of the LW-Felddivision smock :<O</O

Close-up on the wrist snaps. The female snap on the right bears the classic "Prym 6" marking (not shown here). The superficial oxidation is probably the consequence of improper storage in humid conditions.

                          Breathtaking!

                          Hello Mark,
i'm very late in responding to this thread due to catching up on it. i'd hesitate to simply call the items a "Collection", i even think that classing it as a "Museum" is still far too small a term. You have assembled an incredible selection of artifacts from the early part of the 20th century and it is simply breathtaking.
Thanks for posting the detail shots of the LW feld division smock. One of these is part of my collecting goals for 2004 and the close-up images will be a superb reference for me.
                          Congratulations again,

                          Patrick.

See below a wartime picture showing a sniper officer (look at the shoulder board) using a Russian Tokarev with telescopic sight.

What you have there is an officer, big difference,in a posed photo with a captured Russian weapon.I'm only asking as you have a great collection with some quality items so I thought you would go for detail.
                            Cheers,Paul.j

Thank you Patrick, and glad that you like the close-ups. It is exactly my meaning that the close-ups can help other collectors. Also, I wish you best success in finding your own LW-Felddivision smock.

Paul, it's probably my poor English, but I still don't understand the exact meaning of your question.<O</O

If your question is to know if sniper-officers existed ? My answer is yes. Most skilled snipers rapidly reached the grade of Unteroffizier, and some expert snipers were promoted to Offizier (or already held that rank).<O</O

Concerning the wartime picture I posted of the officer aiming with a captured Tokarev rifle, most sniper collectors know that some German snipers preferred the Tokarev rifle with scope in place of their own German sniper-rifle ! So, it is far from sure that the wartime picture of the sniper officer is, as you said, a "posed photo".<O</O

                                Hope this helped,<O</O
