far from the starting line
a lot of connections have been made
also
D's fake of the week has caused alot of confusion
he should've called it: D's cast of the week
casts can be so good, there's no way of telling by pics alone
also these 'swirly' spangen are so super rare, that I doubt if many, if any, collectors have had the opportunity to compare pieces 'in hand', which is adding difficulties

I have spent countless hours on this subject of late, cross-referenced long into the night...
here are my findings:
1st working die was the 'swirly' one, and a flaw under the numeral '1' began
somehow whatever machine was used to create this from the 'original model' didn't reach deep enough? thus the swirl pattern? a trial run?
A 2nd working die was made/used, with no flaw, but it began again
'tail feathers' were added later (flaw remaining)
At this time a 3rd similar working die was made/used (no flaw, and characteristic 'lined pebbling')
A final extra tail feather was then added to the 2nd die
Finally 'viens' were added to the 3rd die
then L/57 launched into the 2nd pattern spangen
the 1st and 2nd dies could have been producing side by side.
and as far as I can see, with the data avaliable, that's the story until more examples appear, either strengthening or weakening my theory...
now I must get back to my family, and start surfing porn again

just throwing numbers around:
450,000 EK2 spangen awarded
2,000,000 produced?
say 100,000 early patterns awarded?
400,000 produced?
early L/57s seem to have had about 60% of the market
they produced 240,000?
3 dies? 80,000 per die?!
I'd say a few 'working' dies, from a couple of working hubs?
so 7-8ish individual dies were banging out these early L/57s?
