It's a post war repainted late can, with enamel insides and early aluminum spoon. The straps look original.

    best regards Sven

Please elaborate, what distinguishes an original from a post war food carrier?
I'd like to mention also, that mine is identical to the one shown in this thread as an original:

Sorry, I put the sentence in a wrong way.
It looks to be an original late war food container, but the paint is post war.

        best regards Sven

looks a nice complete original piece
more pictures of the spoon date and maker
looks orig paint (same colour INSIDE container).
any date/ wa or maker code on container?
all thats missing is the soldier who carried it, and the goulash.

I agree, seems original paint. And the straps, original, but never used?
            Any marking on spoon?

            regards
            Mike

Sorry, but this is definitely not original paint, look at for example the screws and the threading on them. You would expect rust on them. There is also paint over rust on the can. I feel sorry for your collections if you think this is original paint

I will post some pictures later of my two essenbehalter in original tan paint, then you can see the difference.

                inside looks rust OVER tan.
these items got overpainted in the war.
closer sniff inside and out could help determine more info.
we can agree to disagree, sympathy free.

Svenpanzer is correct here. I realised it was not the original paint, it was layered on really heavy and quite messily.
I wanted to strip it down and repaint it, to restore it. When I started to sand it, the original paint (and it's red primer) - in perfect condition- were visible underneath the thick top layer of paint. What also became visible were the markings and the date: djo 43

The top layer of paint was quite a dark and 'grimy' browny/tan colour. Underneath that, the paint was beige with red oxide underneath. This I imagine, is the original paint. (it was not on the threads)
