    E-stand mg34 ammo basket

Member Selling this so called camo paint on an early grey 1940 Mg drum looks like a recent air brush finish.

If you mean the HDK drum, I can hardly see the camo spray but the grey one looks original to me.

Yes its the original grey paint but the seller describes camo as well, you can
just see a slight brownish finish on the top, this was sold on the E-stand last year
may be the original seller can make a comment.

The camo is of course subtle, but certainly visible... as for the ill-informed "recent air brush finish" comment, I'm afraid you are mistaken. This one is clearly as 'untouched' as they come.

Coming back to the camo, here's a quick chart I found on google showing this early pattern (1939-1940). Also attached is a pic of an ammo tin (1938) that I had in a very similar scheme...

PS - you must be thinking of some other drum, because this one did not come from the estand either...

It is the same one I purchased from E-Stand last year I did not see any camo paint on it, as to the links I know what these are.

It was not something I noticed either until I really looked at it before photographing... as I say it is subtle, but more than visible (on the top especially). Even more subdued is the brown spray across the sides.

As said previously did not see this must be your camera enhancing the effect,
there probally is a weathered rustic finish showing thru, I have a helmet with
                the same finish.
