Yes its the original grey paint but the seller describes camo as well, you can
just see a slight brownish finish on the top, this was sold on the E-stand last year

The camo is of course subtle, but certainly visible... as for the ill-informed "recent air brush finish" comment, I'm afraid you are mistaken. This one is clearly as 'untouched' as they come.
Coming back to the camo, here's a quick chart I found on google showing this early pattern (1939-1940). Also attached is a pic of an ammo tin (1938) that I had in a very similar scheme...
PS - you must be thinking of some other drum, because this one did not come from the estand either...
