Thats what its always mistaken for - indeed its a gasmaksbag on its own, for late war gasmask. Just a small rubber mouthpiece on the filter, thats it.

Here is a nice complete mask:

Following the link from the other thread.

look under "Germany M" (top line, click on the flag) and "Mundstueck/schw" (far left, scroll down and click on the arrow)"

These pouches were used for the "Ersatzgasmaske", as shown above.... but, i know some earlier then 1944 dated ones, so they must be used for other equipment before. A fellow collector have one with "Steigfelle" for Gebirgsjäger in it.

                Best regards

I doubt the climbing furs were meant to be stored in such a pouch, rather be put in postwar. Are those issued or civilian ones?

They might be meant 1st for tankers or navy artillerie gunners, or any other soldiers who moved inside tiny rooms.
But that theory is not confirmed yet.

Ich glaube Gordon hat die Tasche mit den Steigfellen, muss ich Ihn mal fragen!

However, the bag itself is called "Tragbeutel für Filtereinsatz" (carriyng bag for spare filter)! "Filtereinsatz" (Fe) was the term for the filter...
The mouth piece was introduced in March 1944, so maybe the bag was used earlier, just for a spare filter.

                      Best regards
                      Dirk

Not necessary, I am sure you also have found over the years many Wehrmacht pouches or boxes with other contents than their original meaning.. ;-)
